I will share with you more of the clippings that Hazel
Shelton accumulated from the old newspapers and other sources. Her
sources were from a period before 1900 and early 1900's. I feel that
history should be recorded as it was over 100 to 125 years ago,
because those documents are no longer available.
The documents, do however, include information about
events that happened to some present day families that have made
Aubrey their home.
The following is from the old clippings:
August 16, 1890 – they hung massive windows and
weights in the Aubrey Institute and have purchased sufficient
blackboards, paper, erasers and slates. Next they will build a music
hall. Mrs. Edwards is the music teacher.
Mr. Francis Caddell moved into town to be near the
center of his cotton gin.
Mrs. Rhodes has presented her little daughter with an
organ.
(Bouncer’s Note: The above described school building
was a large wood frame building that occupied the area where today’s
high school is located. My commendations are in order for the unique
location of the present day school system.)
September 6, 1890 – Mr. Rhodes has opened a bed
springs factory in Aubrey.
Mr. Witt now has a lumber yard in Aubrey. He purchased
the property of James Mullens grocery store and will use it as an
office for the lumber yard.
October 4, 1890 – The barber, W.J. Slaton, bought a
lot for L.N. Edwards and may build his business house on it.
