My little granddaughter Holly has moved to Lubbock to
enroll at Texas Tech. She will major in Agriculture Communications.
Holly has been my editor for the past few years and has become a
knowledgeable historian of local history. Holly’s activities have been
the highlight of this past week.
I am anxious to hear from some of my friends and their
comments on local history.
I am going to go back and continue with some of the
events that Hazel Shelton documented a few years ago while she was the
City of Aubrey Secretary.
They are as follows:
Saturday, October 18, 1890 – Grocery owned by Pola
Cadell and W.H. Tatum. About 2006 bales of cotton have been weighed to
date on the Aubrey scales. Also a Sunday School was organized at the
Methodist Church.
Saturday, March 1, 1890 – W.P. Wilks of Little Elm
bought some Aubrey city lots from L.N. Edwards.
Saturday, December 20, 1890 – J.L. Parker is building
a blacksmith shop on his lot in Aubrey.
Saturday, January 31, 1890 – There is now a photo
gallery in Aubrey. They have built a new parsonage (Didn’t say which
church).
Friday, March 17, 1893 – The Aubrey beef market has
opened again. J.G. Powledge and Wm. Ratchford purchased 2/3 of the
Crawford and Graham Business. Crawford retained 1/3 interest. W.P.
Crawford went to Bonham to go into business with A.E. Graham. His
mother, Donna Crawford and her son Luther will also make their home in
Bonham.
Friday, April 7, 1893 – Appointed Notary Publics for
the term in Aubrey are W.L. Rector, James B. Nelson, and J.G. Powledge.
J.A. Mullins and family of Collinsville have moved back to Aubrey
where he will put in a blacksmith shop. Dora Ratchford is proprietress
of a millinery shop.
