I received a pleasant call from an 86 year old
relative who is one of Aunt Emmer and Uncle Cage McNatt’s grandaughter
to Betty and Jeremiah Looper.
My 86 year-old friend got away before I was able to
get her name, but she promised me that she was going to send me a
bunch of Cherokee history of the settlers of Onega. She said she was
working real hard to get family facts together and she would be
sharing it with me soon. So we all have this information to look
forward to in the future.
She said that when she receives her Town Charter in
the mail, she goes straight to the week’s edition of "Talk From Under
The Tipi." She also told me that she reads every word in the paper and
has saved every edition since its firs publication.
I will be sharing more of the family facts as this
dear friend releases it to me.
In the meantime, I have been printing some of Hazel
Shelton’s collections. They are as follows:
October 4, 1890 – W.P. Parker, of Sandtown, bought a
corner lot off L.N.Edwards and erected a business house on it. W.L.
Zumwalt, an Aubrey lumberman lives at Sandtown but has bought the
Methodist parsonage and will move his family here soon.
Mary Tatum will teach at Martin’s school house this
winter.
Crawford brothers have added drawers to the shelves of
their business.
Mr. Parker is having a store house built. Crawford
Brothers and J.L. Parker are putting brick pavement in front of their
business. W.L. Rector will run Parker store here and Parker will run
the old one on Elm.
Aubrey’s Post Receipts reached 250 again this year.
W.E. Kelly had a boy Wednesday night and woke the town
shouting.
